Takeshi Yamaguchi, Co-Chair

Takeshi Yamaguchi is currently Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Tohoku University. He received his BS, MS, and PhD in Engineering at Tohoku University in 1999, 2000, and 2008, respectively. He was an assistant professor in 2000-2010, and is an associate professor of Tohoku University since 2011. He studied in University of Toronto as a visiting researcher in 2010-2011. He has been interested in tribology of soft materials and biomechanics in human locomotion, and has published approximately over 80 peer-reviewed journal publications. He has also been interested in industry-academia collaboration, and his research works have been successfully applied to fall protection products such as high slip resistant shoes, high grip sports shoes, and so on. He is the recipient of many individual and best paper awards: the MEXT Young Scientists’ Prize (2015), Paper Award of Tribology Online (2009, 2015, 2018), etc. He was bestowed the title of Tohoku University Distinguished Researcher (2020). He is a member of the Japan Ergonomics Society, International Society of Posture & Gait Research, the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineer, Japanese Society of Tribologists, Japan Society for Design Engineering. From 2021, he is the Co-Chair of the STF (Slips, Trips and Falls) Technical Committee of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA).
